Urban Land Institute

In April 2010 the Urban Land Institute’s Terwilliger Center for Workforce Housing released the results of a study that examined how much people in greater Boston pay for housing and transportation. Ellis Strategies was retained to organize the press conference, generate media coverage and help secure the participation of federal, state and local officials. The result was a dynamic press event featuring Boston Mayor Thomas M. Menino, U.S. Representative Stephen F. Lynch as well as U.S. Housing and Urban Development Regional Director Richard Walega. On the morning of the press conference, the Boston Globe ran the story on the front page of the newspaper. The website Boston.com used it as its top story. Throughout the day television and radio stations reported the story. Several daily newspapers and weeklies from other Massachusetts communities followed with their local angles and multiple blogs covering housing and transportation joined in.

Dunkin’ Donuts Independent Franchise Owners (DDIFO)

Since 2007, we have been retained by the Dunkin’ Donuts Independent Franchise Owners (DDIFO), a nonprofit business organization representing over 2,000 Dunkin’ Donuts stores. DDIFO has utilized Ellis Strategies for writing press releases, communicating with reporters to successfully place news articles that reflect the position of the DDIFO membership, writing newsletters, writing and editing a quarterly magazine and assisting with strategic planning for the organization’s growth and expansion. With assistance from Ellis Strategies, DDIFO has strengthened its public position which has enabled it to provide more robust services for its members. In addition, our efforts supporting the group’s legislative affairs agenda has resulted in the introduction of legislation supporting some specific interests of the organization’s members.

Aflac

One of Aflac’s latest initiatives supports Be the Match, the national marrow donor program. Aflac’s interest was spawned by the individual efforts of an Aflac representative in Massachusetts whose own donation saved the life of a New York toddler (and Yankees fan). Aflac’s Chief Operating Officer wanted to publicize that story as a way to help Be the Match increase its donor base. Ellis Strategies worked with Aflac, be the Match, the Rhode Island Blood Center and the Boston Red Sox to generate publicity in New York and Boston.

Newton Community Service Center

This nonprofit provides child and family services for thousands of families every year. They first came to Ellis Strategies to publicize their centennial anniversary but the public relations effort has continued because there are so many good stories to tell. The Boston Globe has written numerous pieces about NCSC which have not only strengthened their reputation in the community but also enabled NCSC to improve its fundraising activities.
